Doomsday 2012 – Mayan Prophecy Turned Hollywood Movie Or Eighth Event to End the World?

The hype cycle of the film “2012″, working full tilt, about the Earth’s impending destruction has been so powerful that Nasa representatives have been shunted out to appear on American talk shows to reassure viewers that it simply that: hype. However, they have far from soothed the general public’s propensity for panic.

The timing of its release has been impeccable, with only a few weeks left before the Climate Conference in Copenhagen convenes. It is said that the conference, although unlikely to reach international agreement due to perceived unfairness over the burden of responsibility facing the undeveloped world, is essential and that the world’s governments must reach a consensus so that a Copenhagen Protocol can be agreed upon, thereby committing all nations to reduce carbon emissions dramatically to prevent further instability over “global warming” and climate change.

On the ground, however, public concern about doomsday in December 2012 has grown exponentially and is spreading internationally, causing almost mass hysteria. Indeed, some Mayan and Nostradamus believers, who predict Earth’s ultimate extinction in three years’ time, assert that this date will be the dawn of a new age and “spiritual growth” for survivors. Jokingly, a recent New York Times article mocked these soothsayers with: “It is kind of depressing if you were looking forward to taking a vacation from mortgage payments to finance one last blowout.”

Red Movie Review – Red’s All Right, Almost

There are things that are just beyond the realm of possibility even for Hollywood films but you dare question the authenticity of certain acts especially when they are being executed by Bruce ‘John McClane’ Willis. Based on the graphic novels by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, director Robert Schwentke’s Red gets to do a whole lot more than merely push the limits of believability.

Red Movie Story

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) used to be a highly placed CIA operative who has nothing better to do with his retired life but indulge in intercity telephonic chats with Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker), his claims officer who he has never met in person. Out of the blue a covert team is sent to kill him but old habits die hard and Moses ends up surviving. He realizes that whoever is trying to wipe him out will make a dash for Sarah so he kidnaps her in order to save her life. Once Moses joins the dots it becomes quite clear that the clear and present danger to his life is due to some dubious action in the past. So he starts rounding up his old team – a stage 4 liver cancer patient Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), a completely nuts and extremely paranoid Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich), former foe and KGB top shot Ivan Simanov (Brain Cox) and former MI:6 operative who now loves tending gardens Victoria (Helen Mirren) to make sure they outsmart the enemy. The five with Sarah, who’s enjoying this wild ride, have to figure out who’s trying to kill them before Agent America and CIA man William Cooper (Karl Urban) executes his orders.

The Hollywood Movie “Philadelphia” and the Law of Attraction

Philadelphia is a wonderful story showing the Law of Attraction in action. Two of my favorite actors, Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks, play in this film. Tom Hanks plays Andy Beckett, a smart young homosexual lawyer who loves opera. And Denzel plays Joe Miller, a homophobic lawyer, who decides to represent Andy despite his homophobia.

Andy works for a prestigious law firm. He was hired because he was the best. Smart, quick, knowledgeable about the law and passionate about being a lawyer. He is working on one of the most important cases the law firm has had to date. He works day and night to get the final papers drafted and he leaves them on his desk, when he is finished late one night. He leaves instructions for his secretary, who will see them in the morning, to do what is appropriate with them.

All the while Andy is working on this case, he is just learning that he has AIDS. He begins to have lesions on his face and body and so he starts to work at home a lot. He is in and out of the hospital getting tests done and he is trying to hide that fact of his illness from his co-workers. One of his co-workers, another lawyer, recognizes one of the lesions for what it is, AIDS and he tells his boss about it. And at once Andy is let go from the firm, even though just a short time before he had been given a promotion.

Taking On The Hollywood And Indie Scenes

The Indie film scene has taken over quite a lot of the movie making industry today. Indie being short for Independent refers to films which are made by smaller film makers and not the larger motion picture companies that are common to the screens. The interesting thing though is that in order to be considered an Indie, only less than half of the financing for the movie should come from a larger film company. They basically are low budget films with limited release on the movies.

Hollywood as we know it is continually growing with various movies in production, be they action, drama, comedy or animation. The evolution of Hollywood has been seen from before the 1900s when movies started being produced and filmed. The life in Hollywood is largely one of movie stars and celebrities who have featured in successful movies. It is diverse with many different landmarks and built up scenes which continue to be developed for various feature movies.

Even though Indie and Hollywood movies have come this far, there is need to recognize that it has been due to a number of factors. One of these is technology which has seen the rapid development of affordable cinematography cameras which have been made easier to use. This has come hand in hand with new computer editing software which is readily available in this industry. Because the technology has become more affordable, many aspiring movie makers are able to creatively express their work on film. The initial costs of equipment such as cameras were actually the biggest hurdle that many aspiring movie makers had to deal with.
